Mr D Kay (Chair)

I was born in St Helens, Lancashire in 1949 and following a grammar school education graduated from Sheffield University in 1970, BSc With Hons in Geology.

My wife Judith and I were married in Burnley, Lancashire in 1971 and have two children who were born in Linconshire, Emma in 1974 and Edward in 1976. Both were educated at Barrowby Primary school and KGGS and Kings, respectively.

Following graduation I worked in the minerals extraction industry for Blue Circle Cement and Ready mixed Concrete until 2002 when the takeover of Blue Circle by Lafarge Industries gave me the chance to take redundancy and early retirement.

During my working life I started life as a field geologist and finished as Manager of Land and Minerals Resources for Blue Circle, a role which made me and my team responsible for all the Company’s raw materials world- wide. My various positions required me to undertake assignments in North and South America, Australasia, Malaysia, New Guinea, Indonesia, Africa and Iran. Consequently I spent long periods away from my family during the childrens’ school years.

On my retirement in2002 I was appointed as a Governor at the National School in Grantham and was subsequently asked to assist at Denton following the implementation of Special Measures. At Denton I was Special needs Governor and Chair of Finance, both roles I continued for the combined Governing body following Federation with Harlaxton. With the increasing commitment at Harlaxton and Denton and the Federation of the National school with Harrowby Lane I decided to resign from the National/Harrowby Lane Governing body to concentrate my efforts at Denton/Harlaxton. I became Vice-Chair of the combined Governing body at Denton/Harlaxton in 2012 and Chair 2014 in following the retirement of the existing Chair due to ill health.

In my spare time I enjoy gardening, walking, playing golf and singing. I am currently also an appointed Magistrate on the Lincolnshire bench.
