Summer Term 2026

Hello and welcome back to the Summer Term in Class 1!

It is a very exciting term as we have lots to learn before the summer holidays can begin. We will be focussing on living things this term in KS1; learning about plants and animals. We will be writing some great traditional tales and explanation texts. We will also be conducting a study on the country of Kenya in Africa, comparing it to Grantham, Denton and the United Kingdom.

PE will be on Thursday afternoon for KS1 and on Friday afternoon for the whole of Class 1.

Our spellings lists and homework will be sent out on Friday and will be expected back in on the following Friday.

If you need anything, please feel free to speak to a member of the team.

Mr. D

Maths

As part of our Maths learning, we have been identifying money. We identified the names and values of each coin and note and then worked out how much money we had altogether.

Science

In our science lessons, we have been studying plants and their structure. As part of our recap from previous terms, we created an image of a plant and labelled the roots, the flower, the stem and the leaves. Plus any other features that we could remember. How great are these diagrams?

Physical Education

We were invited to take part in the KS1 Cricket Festival at the Grantham Cricket Club. The whole of KS1 took part in different activities which were teaching us the skills of cricket. It was a gloriously sunny morning, and we all tried our very best to play the games. What a great day!

English

In our T4W sessions, we learnt a story called 'Jack and the Giant' which is like Jack and the Beanstalk. We have then planned our own beat the monster story as a class. We called ours 'Oakley and the Bats'. It has been fun to come up with different monsters that we could have in our story.

Religious Education

The Story of Rama and Sita is an important story from the Qur'an. It is important to Muslims and is well known as the story behind the festival Divali. We listened to the story and then created some still images of some of the characters and events that happen. We used natural materials to create our images. It was great fun!
